Daniel Rechtschaffen is a writer and mythologist who explores how human beings have made meaning of crisis, collapse, and renewal across cultures and centuries. With a background in classical literature and mythology, he has spent years immersed in the world's apocalyptic stories — biblical prophecy, shamanic vision, and the existential-risk narratives of our own moment — searching them not for predictions but for wisdom.
His work follows a single thread: that the stories we tell about the end are really stories about transformation. Drawing with reverence from Jewish, Christian, Sufi, Buddhist, and Indigenous traditions — including the Miwok mythologies of the land where he lives — he asks what these ancient maps can teach us about navigating change with clarity rather than panic.
Daniel writes and teaches on myth, impermanence, and what it means to stay awake while the world keeps turning. He lives in Northern California with his wife and son, where a child's game of Noah's Ark first set this book in motion.
